I realized a few years after college that I had almost completely stopped reading for pleasure, and then made a resolution to start doing so. I always loved it when I was young, and find that when I stop reading my brain starts to stagnate a bit. And if it’s worth doing, it’s worth tracking!
I started tracking my reading in earnest in 2010 or so; everything before that is really just backfilling things that stand out as memorable to me. In 2017, I decided that I should read more nonfiction, so I’m trying to adjust my intake a little as I make my way through a backlogged reading list. I’m also always looking for recommendations, so send me yours!
Below is a collection of things I’ve read that have been impactful or inspiring for me.
-
Technological Revolutions and Financial Capital by Carlota Perez
-
Foundation by Isaac Asimov, as well as the next two in the series, Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation
-
Any of the Calvin & Hobbes canon, though my favorites are There’s Treasure Everywhere and Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat
-
This one is cheating a little bit because it’s a lecture, not something to read, but Feynman’s Computer Heuristics Lecture should be required watching for just about everyone I know!
